Tablet support

Post by Dav »

Lol. Your wife sounds a lot like mine. :D

I wish I could try SPL. I tried to download a while back but had a problem with using the Microsoft store on my win10 tablet. I never could download it. (I got a cheap win10 tablet from the drug store - don't even know where I put it now). I'll dig up my win10 tablet and try it again. SPL Looks very interesting!

I noticed in the spring that a lot of drugstore flyers showed cheap windows tablets. I didn't bite then, but in the summer when we were holidaying in BC, I got bored and checked out Amazon. I bought a CHUWI Hi10 for $250 and had it dropped off at the campsite within 3 days! It dual-boots to Windows 10 or Android 5. I can update the Windows side as new downloads become available, but I'm not sure about the Android side yet.

SPL is working perfectly on it except for one of the new math functions for super large numbers. Mr. K thinks maybe it doesn't have the full Windows math library. I still have my Dell laptop if I ever need to program super large precision math, which is highly unlikely.

SPL still lacks a lot of cool things that we take for granted in Smart Basic, like sprites, fonts, sounds and music. But I think they will gradually come.

Thank you for your opinion.
Actually the first version of smart BASIC was very "basic" comparing to what it became after several years of updates.
SPL is currently in public beta state, so it is in the very beginning of its life. This SPL can be considered as a major redesign of old-style BASIC language into something more modern and at the same time more simple to use. Also SPL works on PCs and is not limited to just mobile devices.

No offense intended. I realize that SPL Is in its early days. One post before the one where you quoted me, I said
. [SPL] is the new language Mr. K is developing for Windows. It has some very nice features including very strong object orientation, compact code and high speed.

It is fun to be working again with a language that gets new updates posted every week!
I also gave it a 5 star rating and a lot of praise on the Windows Store. 8-)

I just tried to get SPL again. Microsoft store says i have to upgrade win 10. I guess I need a better tablet with a proper win 10 install first. Guess I shouldn't have got a $70 tablet.

No. This just means that your Windows version is outdated and needs an update. This has no connection with your tablet model.

I also have a tale of woe. I got the same message on my Dell Inspiron laptop. I downloaded the Windows 10 update and gave it all the time it needed. I came back to a blue screen with a message that the update had failed due to some missing component. It said I would need the original Windows media to fix the problem. I have that stored - somewhere!

My options were Try Again, which did nothing, Quit or Launch a Different OS. I tried that third one and my machine booted up to my older Windows 10 version! Wouldn't you think that choice would be named Revert to Previous Version?

I will see if I can find my Windows 10 media and try again.

As for me, I use Parameters > Security and update > Restore option. It allows to reinstall Windows completely, and it fixes all problems if there are some.
