I feel deeply the struggles that you have had with your health, George, Scott and Henk. It gives me great appreciation for your bravery in living live as fully as possible. My health issues so far have been minor, although I had to have a mitral valve repaired and a single bypass done in 2011. At the time that required open-heart surgery, and had a recovery time of about 6 months. Now only 5 years on, my surgeon is pioneering in Western Canada a method for achieving the same results with just an incision between the ribs. Recovery time is now down to a few weeks.

I have been a caregiver to my wife for the past sixteen years, after her nursing career was cut short from the effects of Sansert, a migraine drug she took for several years. It caused fibrosis of both her mitral and tricuspid heart valves, and she has had two open-heart surgeries to replace them one by one with mechanical valves. She has to balance her intake of Coumadin to maintain a blood clotting level about 1/3 of normal. If she overdoses, she is in risk of strokes, and if she underdoses, clots may form on her artificial valves. Yet we still enjoy life, each other and our Labradoodle Phaedra.
The only thing that gets me down is gravity...
