Email sent from Smart Basic lost in space

When I click on a file (program file or PNG), then click the SHARE icon and select email, everything appears to go as expected and the email appears to send normally. Unfortunately the email never arrives at its destination. It is not going to spam or showing up anywhere. Nor do I get any kind of error or message that tells me the email failed to send.
I tried a single TXT file, then a single PNG file, and I tried sending to @GMAIL.com addresses, @AOL.com addresses, and @iCloud.com addresses and none of the emails arrive. I never receive an error and the whole process appears to work.
I am wondering whether anyone else has this problem, or whether I have a setting or firewall preventing messages from Smart Basic from coming through.
